I love Kohinoor! My family has been coming here since I was a young child, and the place is truly a gem. The portions are excellent, the flavors are AMAZING! The food is so fresh, you can taste the quality and care that goes into it. My favorite part is the FIVE levels of spice (which all places should have, in my opinion, hehe): Mild, Medium, Hot, Indian Hot, Indian Extra Hot. YESSSSSSSS!! Do not mess with Indian Extra Hot unless you know what you're doing. But do not fear: The mild and medium is exactly that, for those of you tame ones. It is located in the back of an otherwise dull strip plaza. You've gotta be looking for it. Do not let this fool you. Look for it. Find it. Thank me later. Everything I've tried is amazing. The service is attentive and friendly, everyone is helping everyone. It's nice. Lovely ambiance as well. A great place to go for dinner. I've never had the lunch buffet, but I can only imagine it is amazing as well. Bravo, Kohinoor. Way to stand out and care about your food. A++++!

This is one of my favorite Indian restaurants in the Orlando area. Located in - of all places - a stripmall in Altamonte springs (inconspicuously placed, and eclipsed by a Wing House), Kohinoor serves up a wide selection of chicken, lamb, seafood, and vegetarian dishes. They serve up tandoori dishes (the oven-style of cooking from the Punjab region) including all sorts of Naan bread. You'll get all the standbys - paneer, vindaloo, etc - and I have never had a bad dish here. Last time I went I was in a vegetarian frame of mind and ordered the Bharta (eggplant grilled over charcoal, with tomatoes, onions and spices) and Yellow Daal (yellow lentils cooked with garlic, cumin and fresh cilantro leaves) along with a side of garlic naan (oh, and a glass of Cab, because I'm weird like that). All great. The interior of the place is big and the lighting is a bit darker (but that's how I prefer it). Prices are also reasonable. You can't go wrong here.

What can I say about this place. It is the best Indian food I have had in town. It's located in a little strip mall in Altamonte Springs. Started of with the vegetable samosa and it had great flavor and just a dash of heat which I loved. My entree was chicken curry with the heat index of hot and some garlic naan. The curry had great flavor and enough heat to clear out your sinuses. I love this dish and seem to get it every time. It's even better the next day for lunch. The staff was attentive and friendly, they did forgot to bring the naan out with the meal tho. Other than than good service. This place has the WOW factor for me which keeps me coming back at least once a month.

The food was as savory as the dining experience. I may not be the most adventurous sampler of curries and various spices, but Kohinoor has changed my mind. Is there anything better than a daily buffet that provides salad, rice, butter chicken and delicious curries? Yes! The shrimp masala (pictured) and garlic naan! I was not the only diner yesterday at the front door when Kohinoor opened. Another gentleman was there and he told me he used to drive from Kissimmee to visit Kohinoor. I can see why. By the time I left, the first floor was packed and the service staff was on point. Attentive, courteous, and quick to make the experience as memorable as possible. And it was - and I'll be returning VERY soon.

I have only recently tried Indian cuisine. I found this restaurant in my area using Yelp. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was inviting . I enjoyed my first time dining experience there . So much, I'm taking my niece tomorrow for the lunch buffet.

My go to spot for lunch! It's buffet and they're prices are pretty good. The buffet may not seem like a lot, but it's a good amount to me. The staff here are very attentive, friendly, and quick. Restaurant itself is not that big, but is cozy. It feels like your at someone's house and eating in their dining room. Food choices, I looooooove the naan. Dip in the butter chicken and you my friend are set for lunch! Love the butter chicken, vegetable curry, chicken tandori, and fried potatoes and samosa. Yum yum! All of the food choices are really good and fulfill my Indian cravings for sure. Their rice pudding and dessert ball things which I forgot the name of are a sweet tooths dream. But they are SUPER sweet. Just a warning, cause you won't need to eat a lot unless you really want to. Like this place and great location for me since it's only 10 min away :)

Small, family owned Indian restaurant. I've tried many different dishes ranging from curry to tandoori and their food is always flavorful and fresh. Best naan bread I've ever had. Great lunch buffet, too. Stinks they're closed Mondays, because that's when I crave their food most!

I go here for the lunch buffet, which is always awesome. The butter chicken is excellent and i love the samosas and the soft style naan. Staff are always nice and quick with drink refills.

We had dinner here celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary with my beautiful bride, it was a very nice place, dim lighting nice quiet calm atmosphere, The staff was very friendly, polite and informative, add a little bit of romantic to the place. I had the curry chicken and the curry spice was perfect, I recommend getting the garlic bread. The prices were fair, will be coming back to this place when we have that Indian cuisine taste bud craving again. One thing I like the most was it had a very good menu for Denise for her being a vegetarian.

Winner, winner, curry dinner! I had been looking for a great curry joint on the north end of town, and I have a new home for my spicy cravings. The first time I was here, I had the chicken curry. Good, but nothing to write home about. The second time, it was Chicken Vindaloo (Indian Hot). Absolutely incredible. I'd probably order it regular hot, with some hot spice on the side if I needed to tune it up a notch in the future, but the balance of flavors nailed it. Their naan and roti are also fresh and delicious. I've never tried their buffet, but their a la carte menu dinner menu is very reasonably priced compared to some of the other Indian restaurants in town.

very good food. went for a weekend lunch buffet Staff very friendly, the spread is very good and most dishes were pretty good, high quality food. The prices are very reasonable. I had gone there for dinner a few months ago, and it was just as good. We are ethnic Indian and having lived in places where there are a lot of good Indian restaurants, we are somewhat conceited and have a bit higher standard when it comes to Indian food. The Indian restaurants in Orlando and vicinity are ok but not super great, so its good to see a nice place Kohinoors serving their customers well. Happy to give them a thumbs up.

This is one of our favorite restaurants for Indian food. Each dish is prepared individually which takes a bit longer but it's worth the wait. We ordered lamb curry, butter chicken and the Kohinoor special appetizer. Each dish was delicious.

Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Just a superb experience all around. I'm an Indian food junkie, and Kohinoor serves up overall the best around bar none. The owners and staff are very attentive, everything is clean, and the atmosphere is soft and quiet, perfect for enjoying all the wonderful flavors. I normally go there for the lunch buffet, and would say the only improvement that could be made (for a frequent customer like myself) would be to vary the dishes served from time to time. A very minor complaint as what they normally have are always delicious. I have also been during dinner and ordered from the menu, and everything I've ever tasted was delicious and served well.

We were searching for good Indian food near the Altamonte Springs area and I think we've found it! We came here on a Saturday evening and enjoyed attentive service (water glasses refilled promptly, servers checking in to see what we needed), which I hate to say we haven't experienced at most other Indian restaurants. So that was a very pleasant surprise. I ordered lamb rogan rosh medium, and I'd actually wager to even get it hot next time (though maybe not "Indian hot") because it wasn't overly spicy. My husband's chicken vindaloo medium was much spicier and more enjoyable. You look at the small amount in the serving dish they give you and you think, "That's it?" but by the time you mix it with the basmati rice and maybe eat some naan, it actually ends up being plenty. In fact, we took half of our entrees and some rice home. Basmati rice on the side was fresh and fluffy. My mango lassi was standard--I always wish they would be served colder, not lukewarm, but I forget each time. Water served at the table tasted filtered, not "Florida water" (you know what I mean, with the sulfur taste?) and that was a pleasant touch. The standout was the paneer naan. Our server asked if we wanted one or two. Thinking they must be small if he suggested two, we ordered two and realized they are actually quite big (around 10-12" around perhaps). But they were so good we didn't mind. They were hot, fresh, not blackened or burned at all, with a substantial amount of cheese. Leftovers the next day weren't as fantastic on the naan, so I'd say only order as much as you think you'll eat in the restaurant. We will definitely come back and try some of the other menu items: samosa? Chicken saag? Maybe some kulfi? There's lots of things to try.

I didn't think it was possible to enjoy an Indian restaurant more than the previous place I was going to. Well I wrong, this is the best Indian I have ever had. The service is top notch and everyone is extremely friendly. If I could eat here everyday I would!

The lunch buffet is so yummy. Its small, but everything is so delicious. I drive out to this place. I really want to go for dinner a la carte, but I am fat and love shoveling plates of delicious food in my vindaloo!

Very good. I love Indian food and have had been to many different restaurants. I have to say that this one ranks near the top. The lunch buffet is a good deal at $10.95 with lots to choose from. I sampled everything they had to offer today and it was not only delicious but each item had its own distinct flavor (a nuance often absent in lesser quality Indian food where the flavors tend to start to all taste alike). The food was well spiced without being too spicy. The Curry Chicken was deep and succulent with the rich, slow cooked flavors of cumin and coriander that you would expect in a good curry. The Butter Chicken was moist with hints of turmeric in a decadently creamy sauce. The Cabbage was crisp an fresh, the Vegetable Curry was delicious and brightened buy a lovely tomato based sauce, and the Mushroom Mutter was rich and woodsy with the subtle licorice undertones of fennel. I finished with a traditional Rice Pudding, scented with cardamom, that did not disappoint. All in all a great meal and I'll be back?

Food was pretty good but the service was pretty bad our first server wasn't knowledgeable about the food. They then took forever to ask us for our order. This was followed by a waiter that knocked over plates and then they all walked over the plates like they didn't exist. Over all just a poor showing from the service staff order take out if u can.

They have lost a customer. Not the first time we had been disappointed in the food but this time it was beyond horrible. We ordered Chicken Vindaloo, which doesn't call for tomatoes in the recipe however it was loaded down with a tomato base and the spices were horrible. Not comparable to real vindaloo. The owners of this restaurant come from where this dish originates we expected it to be good. I make a much better vindaloo than they do. We will not be returning.

We recently celebrated a birthday at Kohinoor. Our party of 10 all had excellent service and fabulous food. Reese, the Owner of Kohinoor personally attended to my father (his birthday), made special dishes for him and even had a cake brought in for his celebration. We could not have asked for more. Thank you Reese for your masterful cooking and your generosity and hospitality - we all had a memorable evening.

I've been coming here for about 8 years now. Indian food is my favorite and I haven't tried anything that even comes close to this place. And I've been to everywhere in central Florida. From the friendly and attentive staff to the affordable prices and hands down best food ever, this place can't be beat. I usually get the curry chicken or lamb vindaloo and gulab jamun as dessert. But everything I've tried is excellent and they let you choose how spicy you want it to be. I hope this place never shuts down!

Kohinoor is located in the TGIF's plaza at the corner of Semoran/436 and The Westmonte Dr light, about 1/2 mile from where Semoran/436 and I4 intersect in Altamonte Springs. I love this place! It's great Indian food, consistently. I've eaten here, happily, for over ten years, mostly for lunch since it's around the corner from my office. Staff is friendly, restaurant is welcoming and fragrant with the delicious smells of well cooked Indian food rolling from the kitchen. Lunchtime offers a small lunchtime buffet usually offering a few chicken dishes, sides, and a couple of vegetarian dishes. (Salad too) Their garlic naan is awesome. I usually grab take out, as I like my Channa Masala kicked up a few notches- I order my food between "Hot" and "Indian hot". Kohinoor's "Indian Hot" tastes wonderful, but that extra heat is sometimes is too acidic for my tummy after eating, so I back it off a bit. :) If you like spicy, go for the Indian Hot and carry a pepto tablet with you as a safety blanket- it's worth any gastro acidity and the accompanying runny nose from the kicked up heat. SO good! Their accompanying rice is especially fluffy and fragrant, mixed with various fragrant spices, just watch out for the whole cloves. I also love the veggie samosas, with the tamarind sauce. So flavorful and yummy, the potato and pea filling cannot be beat. Friends enjoy the butter chicken, masala chicken and tandoori chicken. Lunch buffet is a great deal, but menu is normal dinner prices so it's pricey, esp. for those ordering vegetarian dishes. (Bump down to 4.5 stars.) Take out is packaged very well and I usually get two+ meals out of my lunch order.

I really enjoy this place. I came back to the area for a visit after an 11 year absence, and was very pleased that it was as delicious as I remembered. The service is excellent, attentive without being overbearing, and the ambience is pleasant. I love their mutter paneer.

Indian food is not something I've got a lot of experience with, but seeing that Kohinoor won both people's and critic's choice for the Orlando Sentinel's Foodie awards I thought this would be a good place to start. The dining room is two levels and not much to look at besides some bright Indian decor. Service was awkward. We stopped by during the lunch buffet and were quickly seated but were given no menus. We weren't even sure we had a choice about the buffet, if they served made to order food during lunch. When I asked I was told that we could order off the menu. After peaking at the buffet (and not knowing Indian food) we decided this would be a good way to try several menu items. They offered a handful of entrees, salad, sides, bread and desserts on the lunch buffet for about $11. My favorite dish was the chicken makhani which is chicken cooked in a tomato based cream sauce. It was even a tad sweet and delicious. The mango chutney was yummy too- it went great on the naan and roti breads. The Gulab Jamun was a surprisingly good dessert- loved the honey flavor! The menu would definitely have to be explored quite a bit. Although the food was good, service was no so great and although I'm glad I tried Kohinoor, I'm still not dying to come back for Indian food anytime soon.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant. Absolutely delicious Indian cuisine. I love Indian cuisine and my wife is new to it. We both enjoyed the amazing variety and quality of the dishes they had for the lunch buffet. If we were staying in the area longer, we would be back!!! Very nice and clean restaurant. Enjoyed it!!

I went for lunch today after being disappointed with many Indian restaurants in the Orlando area. Thought I would never see the day when I thought I would be tired of Indian food, but I think today is the day. I enjoyed the buffet, although there did not seem to be as much variety for vegetarians here than at Woodland's. I will say that the spice, the flavoring of the food was excellent! This was really a meal that I enjoyed. I tried some dishes that I am not familiar with but really enjoyed as well. From other reviews it seems as if I will need to go back for dinner.

Great Indian food! I have never had a bad meal here. This was our go-to place for Indian when we lived in Orlando. We recommend it to friends and family who appreciate Indian and we have never heard a complaint. I have had the lamb vindaloo, vegetable korma, chana masala, samosas, naan... everything has been great (with the exception of the naan - I do remember it being a bit charred on occasion). If you ask for it spicy - it will be spicy, so keep that in mind. Service has always been great and efficient. The decor is a bit strange, and the outside if definitely unassuming (to put it lightly). It's in a very run-down strip mall with blacked out windows and is easy to miss. However, parking is always super easy and it's in a pretty safe area. This is one of the places I miss most from Orlando!

While I have only been here for lunch . . . it is an absolute life saver when I am craving Indian food. I believe for around $10.00, Kohinoor provides multiple options at the lunch buffet to fill that Indian craving. They are never super slammed, so you don't have to wait and wait for food to be replenished, although they do constantly bring out new stuff when things get low. The staff is always friendly, and does not really bother you unless they see your drinks are low or plate is empty. As Rayni mentioned, the buffet food is probably not the BEST of the BEST quality Indian food ever, but I think they are above average. . . personally I always go for the red chicken and the curry chicken. Overall, I think the Kohinoor lunch buffet is definitely worth checking out when you are in the mood for Indian food!

I've only been here for lunch (several times) and love it. Buffet is very good, if your a vegetarian several options for you as well. Place is cozy and staff has always been friendly. If your in the mood for Indian definitely check this place out!

Was driving from Sanford to Palm Beach and needed to get lunch- just happened on this place and what a great find! REALLY good Indian food. We were there on Sunday and had the buffet. Lots of choices and all were good. Hot Naan. The best rice pudding we've had in along time. At 12.95 pp for brunch it is well worth the price.Really friendly staff, nice atmosphere and very clean. Highly recommend

I have been going to this restaurant since I moved to the Altamonte/Apopka areas before 2000. I remember thinking the place was a little tacky but I've learned that that can actually be a good thing. Before I was vegan, I'd get the vegetarian dinner, I can't remember what it's called, but it's the big tray with all these little compartments of different foods. I really like having multiple flavors so I would recommend this as you can try most of the dishes this way. Being vegan, there are a lot of things that I can no longer have (sigh), the naan being one of the most missed. However, there are a few entrees that are prepared without ghee or butter (or milk) and we are happy rotating through these and supplementing with the big vegetable sampler. To be honest, I'd just order that if I didn't feel the guilt associated with a plate of fried goodies and nothing else. I've never had anything I didn't like and the heat is always as you like it but be warned. Indian hot is exponentially hotter than regular hot and I recommend an Indian hot and a regular hot to alternate with if you like spicy. They have always been helpful with what does or does not contain dairy and try to be very accommodating I have been a customer all these years and have recommended it to everyone on this end of town. I'm not sure why they picked Altamonte but I'm glad they did, it's one of the few things out here I'll miss when I move out to Orlando.

Great Indian restaurant! As a matter of fact its the best one I've been to and the only one that actually served truly authentic Indian food. And it was DELICIOUS! The staff was very service minded and attentive, the prices definitely reasonable - especially considering the taste and quality of the food - and the atmosphere neat. I'd absolutely go back again if I lived in Orlando. :-)

Found this restaurant through Yelp!! I was in the area for a training and wanted a great but close dinner spot to the hotel. I had the non-veg thali and it was fun and tasty! The samosa was flavorful, substantial, and the crust was perfectly crisp. The lamb and chicken dishes were perfectly spiced and the portion sizes were just right! The naan was fresh and hot when it was served. I ordered masala chai but at this restaurant, they don't serve it with steamed milk. The hostess convinced me that the masala tea alone was worth ordering and she was right! It was spicy and perfect even without milk OR sugar! I will definitely return when I'm in the area!

I absolutely love Kohinoor. I am relatively new to eating Indian food, but have tried half dozen different restaurants over the past year. None compare to Kohinoor. The food is always spectacular, the service excellent, and I there dips/spreads for the naan are incredible. I would highly recommend this establishment. The lunch buffet's are amazing and I would suggest the "Special Dinners" if going in the evening.

Grabbed some Chicken Vindaloo (HOT) "to go" tonight. The heat was right where I expected it to be, hot enough to give me the hiccups but not so hot that I couldn't taste the flavors and enjoy it. A bit light on the chicken but plenty of rice, enough for leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

I have yet to try the lunch buffet others on here rave about, but as a semi-frequent attendee of their dinner, it's a great Indian restaurant north of Orlando. Their pappadum (1-2 per person seated at your table) comes free alongside three chutneys (tamarind, mint, and a mild peppery kind) as you make your menu selections. They have the usual appetizer offerings of veggie samosas and pakoras alongside some more varied (and pricier) meat-based appetizers. You'd be hard-pressed to not find an entree that suits you - they have several South Indian/vegetarian choices as well as several meat choices, including fish, lamb, and chicken. I usually get the baigan bhartha (hot, but not Indian hot) and my husband usually gets the chicken tandoori and we split an order of garlic naan. If you're a fan of the giant, round and puffy poori served at the now-defunct Udipi Cafe or at the still-alive-and-well Woodland's, skip it here: it is more flat than puffy and tends to be a bit greasy. Save your bread dollars for another specialty bread (aloo paratha is a delightful choice!). If you're taking someone with a non-spicy palate, they have plenty of choices that don't involve the searing heat that some curries provide - their vegetable korma ordered mild is rich and flavorful without singeing your tongue. If you like the spice (like me!) then order something hot or Indian hot! The interior of the restaurant isn't anything special, and it resembles most ethnic restaurants I've been to...it looks like it was converted from a building that was not a restaurant. Is that a problem? No, not at all - I find the goofy ambiance of a good ethnic restaurant a sign that attention has been placed on the food and not the decor. After all, I'm really paying for good cuisine, not frilly tablecloths. The pricing of Kohinoor is cheaper than their nearest (both location and quality of food) competitor, Memories of India. Apps tends to be about $1-$3 cheaper here and main courses are cheaper by $3 -$5, which can add up if you're planning a 3-course meal or if you have a large party. The family and I usually attend on Saturday evenings and the owners tend to walk around among the tables and ensure you are having a pleasant experience. If you're planning a date night or a get-together in Altamonte, I recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Kohinoor before you go to the AMC in the mall or walk around Crane's Roost. You'll leave full and with money left in your wallet.

I eat here once a week! I'm a picky eater...and I'm Indian. So when I say this place is awesome...I mean it. The flavor of the food always tastes fresh...and their naans are to die for. The taste can be compared to the food you find in India...very authentic. The service is great...always asking if everything is ok...refilling the drinks as needed. Love it!

We were on our way back to Jax from Orlando and decided to get some Indian food. I'm wary of buffets but this one was. Pretty good! The unlimited naan and pappadums were great. Loved the raita, mango chutney and tamarind chutney. The onion chutney was just okay. I had the mushroom dish, which was probably the only thing I didn't like. The chickpea mutar was good. My favorite was the vegetable curry, which was great. Everything could have used a lot more spice, but my mom who likes food pretty bland was happy with the heat. The dessert was a nice rice pudding and these fried balls soaked in honey and milk that I loved. Overall, it was a decent meal, especially for the price and a buffet.

This is actually the best experience I had in an Indian restaurant in Florida. The service is spot on and very attentive. Fast drinks to your table, servers do a great job in removing your plate promptly when you go for another one at the buffet. The food itself tasted very fresh and well cooked. Every item I tried was enjoyable. My only complaint is I wish they labelled the level of spiciness on all the item labels. They did for the chutni, but not for the main course meals. The three times I went to the buffet line, the butter chicken was pretty much empty. Same with the chicken tandoori. Those are usually always the most popular items in an Indian buffet, so I would hope they pay extra attention to keeping that filled at best they can. Keep in mind that this place does not serve beef, but they do serve lamb. The decor and table setting was well done. They definitely pay attention to it, which is once again something you wouldn't often see in local Indian restaurants. I certainly recommend this place if you're looking for great service and delicious Indian food.

Very authentic and well prepared. I have been her a few times and have never been disappointed. I have come here with Indian friends from different states and each is able to find a dish to their liking. All have enjoyed Kohinoor very much. Glad to be able to have kulfi too. Love the chili pakora and the biryani is wonderful. I will keep coming back and trying different items from the menu. Great way to explore a rich and beautiful culture!

We love Indian food, and we love Indian buffets. We came here to meet up with some friends while we were passing through town, and honestly didn't have high expectations. But WOW. The lunch buffet was *amazing*. Everything was so super fresh and tasty. And so much variety, especially vegetarian. They label everything as to what's in the dish, making it really easy for those with dietary restrictions. In all our travels across the country, this place ranks as one of the best we've experienced.

I've ordered from Kohinoor using Doorstep Delivery at least 20 times over the last year. I have yet to be disappointed. I'm never thrilled with Doorstep's delivery times but the food from Kohinoor is always perfect. I was in the area a couple weeks ago and I decided to stop in to check out the place in person, and I have nothing but great things to say about the place. The atmosphere was quaint, could be the perfect setting for just about any occasion. I also frequent Moghul further down on 436, and the food is equally good there. I've tried just about every Indian restaurant in town at this point and Kohinoor and Moghul are the only two I find myself consistently returning. Never a disappointment, always perfect food at a reasonable price.

I like coming to Kohinoor because is way closer that Memories of India and they have a better vegetarian variety. We have been here several times now and the service has always been great and attentive. The place could use a little extra cleaning and some new decorations...but that is not why I eat at restaurants. What I like about their variety of vegetarian dishes is that they don't mush the veggies. For some reason, some other indian restaurants (memories included) mash their veggie entrees creating a paste. I personally don't like that. I like to taste the combination of the seasoning with the flavor of the veggie. Most Kohinoor vegetarian entrees have the full veggies. I have tried about three dishes: mixed vegetable curry, aloo gobi, and the navratan Korma. All three had great flavors and the veggies were not overcooked. A definate must if you are looking for indian the altamonte springs area.

I've been here twice for lunch now and I've had the buffet both times. I'm not a huge fan of Indian food & I'm not sure how authentic anything is, but I do have to say that the Butter Chicken is delicious! I also like the chick pea, cucumber & tomato salad, the Naan & the balsamic dipping sauce. I am a big supporter of the chick pea in general & they have several dishes made using them. Their rice is also quite tasty and not at all sticky, but perfectly cooked. When you come in for lunch, I think they assume you are getting the buffet because they do not give you menus, but I'm sure you could ask for one and order that way. They are very good about removing plates and refilling water which I appreciate.

I had a great time at Kohinoor. The workers were very nice and I was satisfied with the food. The naan was yummy!!!!! so buttery and delicious. the chicken curry was good and so was the rice. The samosas were ok but I would definitely come back to try other stuff! The decor is nice inside also.

It seems I like to give out a lot of stars, but I only do so when it is well deserved. This is a nice indian restaurant that I frequent for Sunday brunch. I've been here a lot and this place is so consistent. The exterior is mostly unnoticeable in a strip mall. Inside the staff are always warm and friendly. There is never a wait for greetings and then being shown to a table. The Sunday brunch is an all you can eat buffet of tandoori chicken, butter chicken, various curries (some with and some without meats), samosas, salad, basmati rice, warm naan bread, and some kind of insanely delicious little fried onion balls. They also have items that look like hot pepper chutney and this amazing green minty-cilantro sauce that is great on anything! There are more food items too, but I don't know the proper names so I'll forgo listing them inaccurately. What's my point? The food is really delicious, fresh, flavorful, and most of all satisfying. Try a mango lassi drink and enjoy this place.

Let me start by saying that Indian food is currently my favorite food. I was within walking distance of this restaurant and called to see if they did take out, which they did. I wanted to get back to my hotel room so that I could watch SYTYCD. I ordered butter chicken medium, cheese naan and vegetable pakora. When I arrived I was pleasantly greeted at the front counter and was even given plastic silverware and a plate since she remembered I was in the hotel. Touches like this are very nice and make a place stand out and I walked briskly back on a high note. When I arrived in my room and unpacked the disappointment started. The cheese naan was burnt on one side and not edible. The vegetable pakora looked stellar and there was even leaf garnish in the Styrofoam container but the first and subsequent bites were slightly dry. The sides of mint, tamarind, and onion chutney were not bad but the mint was really watery. The butter chicken heat index was perfectly matched to the medium I requested but I am afraid as a result the flavor of the base sauce seemed slightly hidden by the heat. The tandoori chicken pieces had a good flavor and were slightly larger than I have typically seen. The rice served was fine, nothing special and a matching amount to sauce which was nice. The real surprise just came as I was writing this review. I called back to the place just to let them know, that my naan was inedible. The information was received well and I had forgotten about it when I received a call on my cell phone from a gentleman who apologized and asked me to return if I was able to, for a refund. When I told him I would be unable to make it by the time they close at 9:30pm I was told to call him on his cell (the number he had called me from) and he would wait for me and let me in. When I arrived back to the restaurant at a little after ten, I was greeted by the same smiling face that offered me a plate and silverware. She quickly gave me the cash back and I showed her the burnt naan. A few seconds later a jovial man emerged from the kitchen. His name was Rhey and he was the head chef. After apologies and the explanation was offered, this kind man offered peace over a beer. I gladly accepted his generous offer and we toasted and talked about the cuisine. While we chatted he had setup a special treat of some lamb dish he simply called kabobs. It was lamb like that I have never tasted before. I have never been a fan of lamb preferring goat or chicken for most of the dishes I order. I may change my tune after tasting this delicious dish that I named lamb sausage. A side of some mint chutney and washing it down with a Taj, it was simply divine. When I got up to leave in order for them to close the restaurant he was insistent he take me back and show me exactly why the naan was burnt. I learned that the large tandoori oven they cook in has charcoal in the bottom. When they have big groups, they fill it and make it real hot in order to cook faster. Naan is dough that is formed like a pizza and stuck to the side of the pot in order to cook. Someone had forgotten that the oven was still way too hot from the large party and as a result I got burnt naan. It was so very cool to learn the art of cooking this bread that I had taken for granted. I exited the kitchen with a smile having learned something new today. So, this is the way it should be. This is what it is all about. Adorned on the walls forcibly placed there by the office manager (the owner doesn't want them displayed) are the awards to prove it. Best Indian restaurant in the area for 16 years and with service and food like this, they will run out of wall space!

So sad... when I started this review after my 1st visit, it was 4 stars. But, after having eating here a number of times... now it's reduced to 2 stars :-( as they say... "Meh. I've experienced better." I've had take out, I've had the lunch buffet, and I've had dinner here as well... and more than once! I was really hoping that things would improve. But, upon each visit, the quality of the food just kept getting worse!?!! **lunch buffet** I appreciate that they offer naan... but don't just make up a huge batch and let it get all soggy in the buffet. they charge you for papadam (really...?) very little to choose from. and what they did have wasn't very good. no chicken tikka masala... just butter chicken. well,... what they called butter chicken... it didn't taste right to me. **dinner** I don't know why we bother to order things "indian hot". no one ever believes us. in fact, it's as if they make a point to make the food almost mild just to mock us ;-) the naan was rubbery. chicken not so good. but,... hard to judge because there were such few pieces of meat in each dish. I think the only good thing I can say was that the samosas were ok. service seemed to dip with each visit as well. the last time we went for dinner there were only 2 dinner parties. Us, and one more. And we STILL couldn't get our damn waters filled... aaaarghhh...

I love, LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! The food and the combination of spices are awesomely good. I went to another Indian place, Gateway to India and meh, I will not be back, but Kohinoor- ANY TIME, had both: buffet and take out. Shrimp Biryani medium is amazing, Chicken tikka masala is thick and delish, samosas are savory and tasty, yellow daal with peas is dam good!! Try their special appetizer platter it comes with 6 different things, its really good. The place is beautiful and quiet. We are regulars here

Two words: MANGO CHUTNEY. The gloriousness of this one item is enough to make me come back for more. It was spicy, sweet, and succulent. Absolutely delish when spread on some of their fresh and soft naan bread. All in all, my experience was GREAT here. I went on a Sunday afternoon and they had a lunch buffet for $10. There wasn't an extensive spread of food... but I'd say there was about 5 or 6 meat dishes, and about 5 vegetarian options. There was also a variety of chutneys, spreads, and jams to put on the naan. The waiter was super friendly and helpful. A couple of my friends had never had Indian food before, and he took the time to walk us through all of the dishes on the buffet. I'm not great at remembering the names of the dishes, but I tried EVERYTHING on that buffet and there was not one item that I didn't like. Family owned and operated and awesome. Give them a try!

Kohinoor was my introduction to Indian food several years ago. Maybe that's why I keep coming back...they say you never forget your first time...having Indian. I've since grown to love the cuisine, so this place must be doing something right. Kohinoor is hidden in the back of a shopping center on 436 in Altamonte Springs. It's close to I4, so if you don't have a good Indian place near you, I suggest a trip on the interstate to check this place out. The interior is a little strange - I suspect that it wasn't originally a restaurant. My guess is maybe a bridal shop? Either way, it's a quiet, cozy environment, and isn't a bad place to take a date for dinner. I do have a small complaint with the service. I usually eat an early dinner, and every time I've come here and the lunch buffet was still available, it's been difficult to flag someone down for a menu. I don't do buffets. But the default assumption here and at other Indian restaurants I've visited is that you can't possibly want to order off of a menu when there's a buffet available. Annoying, but not a big deal. Other than that small gripe, I've always had polite and attentive servers. The appetizers I've had here are great. My favorite is the aloo pakora, although the samosa is delicious too. Not sure what kind of oil they fry with, but fried items here aren't too greasy. I'd also suggest getting one of their breads to go with your meal. You get the complimentary crispy things (what are those called, anyway?) with the three sauces, but the bread just makes the meal a complete experience. My old standby is the aloo paratha. You have a lot of choices for your entree, and vegetarians aren't left in the cold. The bharta is amazing - a coal-grilled eggplant cooked with tomato, lentils, and spices served with rice. If you've never had Indian food before, they ask you what level of heat you want (and if they don't, bring it up!): mild, medium, hot, or Indian hot. Do yourself a favor - don't get your food mild...if you do, you're missing the point. Indian Hot delivers some serious heat, so be warned. I've had consistently good food here. I like it so much, in fact, that I often find myself stuffed to the point that I can barely move to get up and go home. To me, that's the true test of a good restaurant.

Come here often for their lunch buffet when I'm just in the mood for a lil curry. The buffet itself isn't that spectacular but it is what it is and they have the more common offering just as buffer chicken, and tandoori chicken, curry chicken and so on. Oh and they have all the naan you could want. To tell you the truth I could just go in with naan and start dipping in all their different sauces and I would be happy. But alas I can't do that but I can come close. The staff is very nice and very attentive to all your needs my water glass was almost never empty and used plates were taken away with haste. This location is convenient to me so I will be frequent to it when the cravings for Indian kick in.

Not the best Indian food I had, but it was nice environment and friendly staff. I had chicken tikki masala and it was good except the chicken was a bit overcooked in my opinion. Mom got lamb and I don't think she liked it much. Food was alright, I thought it was overpriced.

Up until yesterday I would have given Kohinoor all the stars available. We live a bit of a distance from this restaurant but for years it has been our Indian restaurant. We had a gift certificate, purchased from Restaurants.com or somewhere, that was for Kohinoor and they would not accept it. We presented the gift certificate prior to ordering and we were not told there would be a problem with it until we got ready to pay. The manager said they discontinued that program a few years ago. The gift certificate indicates there is no expiration date. We purchased several of these because Kohinoor WAS (until yesterday) our very favorite Indian restaurant. The manager wasn't very nice about it and didn't seem to care. NOT A GOOD WAY TO DO BUSINESS! Very bad on BOTH Kohinoor's part and Restaurants.com's part. In fact to publish something saying it never expires if that is a lie is FALSE ADVERTISING. After years and years of being faithful Kohinoor customers, we will no longer frequent this establishment. There are Indian restaurants closer to us and I guess it's time we give them another chance.

I prefer the buffet. Went there for dinner and ordered from the menu and it was too spicy for me. They take the heat down a few notches for the lunch buffet crowd.

You can't miss at Kohinoor. We've eaten here several times and have yet to order anything that disappoints. The location, as is often the case in the Orlando area, is in an unassuming strip mall on Route 436. Although Kohinoor may not look very impressive from the outside, the interior is a complete change. The excellent service, decor, and soothing music quickly take you away. Recommended dishes include Bahrti, Lamb Saag, and Chicken Tikka.

I've come to Kohinoor quite a few times, and I've truly enjoyed my time every single visit. But I've also only been here for their lunch buffet, both weekdays and weekends. So I can't say much to their menu. As much as the buffet is concerned, though, I find them to be quite delicious. Perhaps not ALL the dishes are great, but for the most part, they're good. I really like their rice pudding dessert. And for the price you're paying, which to me is pretty darn cheap for a buffet, it's definitely worth it. The service is also usually pretty good. It's never been slow or rude for me at all. I will definitely be coming back when I'm in the mood for a buffet or Indian food.

Got there around 8 PM, as the dinner crowd was circulating through, and after a brief wait, we were seated at a nice little table for two. Service was attentive and the hostess was directing the staff effectively. We munched on a serving of delicately crisp papadum that came with three delicious dipping sauces, one with sort of a barbecue-ish flavor, another like a spicy bruschetta and the third was like a thick spinach purée. While we tried to gorge on that, we quickly received our order: amazing chicken tikka marsala and awesome chicken korma over wonderfully moist basmati rice! The bread was so delightful it was a naan issue! Coupled with a nice German Riesling, we were in heaven! Big thumbs up on this awesome repast!

The last Indian restaurant that I tried in Orlando was just mediocre so I had high hopes for this place. It idid not disappoint. I pass by this place almost daily and I can't believe that I am just now discovering how great it is. Located in a strip mall and sandwiched between too popular spots (Wing Spot and First Watch), it's easy to miss Kohinoor. And even once you're inside, it's easy to judge the place because the decor is rather chessy. My husband and I have only been here once but we'll definitely be back because everything was spectacular. The garlic naan was just okay but the 2 lamb curries that we shared were great. Indian food isn't easy to eat, for some, but I've always appreciated the very strong flavors. The service was nice and our water glasses stayed filled. The place wasn't swamped on a Friday night so I'm guessing there isn't really much of a need to make reservations. I will definitely be heading back very soon.

It's amazing to think that if this had been my first Indian restaurant, I would now hate Indian food. That is unforgivable, Kohinoor! I visited this restaurant because a friend waited tables here for a whole week. Like many Indian establishments, the windows are mirrored and you can't see inside, giving it a seedy, XXX vibe. It's a lot nicer inside. I was feeling adventurous and opted for the Kohinoor Vegetarian Thali, which is essentially a prison-issued tray filled with vegetarian items. I love dal and aloo gobi, two dishes I've never seen screwed up, and I'm a samosa fiend. It should have been a promising experience. It wasn't. The samosa was inedible, a first time for me. The dal was fairly decent and I didn't know what else I was eating, nor did my waiter friend who, like I said, only lasted there a week. When I pointed to the huge donut that tasted like it had been soaked in rum, he merely poked at it and snickered because it certainly wasn't edible. This is probably the worst Indian restaurant in town, and that's saying a lot as I've dined in establishments on I-Drive that are probably going to be condemned by the health department soon. For shame, Kohinoor. For shame. Update: I think it's important to mention a tidbit my waiter friend gave me. He told us not to tip him when we used our credit cards. I asked why, and he said, "They keep our tips." Seriously. The waiters here don't get tipped, nor are they paid a living wage. Slip them cash on the DL if you insist on eating in this miserable pit of despair.

I had one of the best dinners of my life this past Saturday at Kohinoor. I ordered several tandoori items as well as curried lobster tail. Everything was perfectly spiced and expertly prepared. If you dine at Kohinoor on Saturday evening, you will likely see me ordering the same meal every Saturday. It was simply perfect.

I'm a big fan of this place's buffet. I've never ordered off the menu, so I can't comment on that. The butter chicken is awesome. You can always tell an Indian place is great when you see a lot of computer geeks there.

I have been going to this restaurant god nearly 15 years. I don't think there is a restaurant in orlando that can touch Kohinoor. Best chicken tikka masala/ butter chicken sauce in town. All big chunks of white meat chicken in the dishes unlike other places where you have to play s guessing game to see if you are eating white or dark meat chicken. Yuck! Atmosphere is nice with dim light setting. Plenty of seating however they do get busy. Call in for reservations. Clean plates and utensils. Kitchen very clean. Bathroom clean. Very friendly sevice. The owner is a great chef who has learned from the best. Customer satisfaction is #1. my best recommendation of any restaurant I have reviewed on yelp. That should say something. Your taste buds will be electrified!

I am quickly becoming an Indian Food aficionado and visited this spot for lunch since it is near my job. Although I only had the lunch buffet it seemed pretty quiet and family runned. Their mango chutney was good but there wasn't as large of a vegetarian selection. Plus, the buffet foods are all mild. I was still satisfied but, it won't be my first choice

My favorite lunch buffet! Wear stretchy pants because you're gonna wanna fill up on all the good food. I've brought many first-timers to this Indian restaurant for lunch and they all love it. Very vegetarian & vegan-friendly, I could drink the vegetable curry sauce with a straw, and the naan is mouth-watering. $10.99 lunch buffet Mon-Fri, the place to be in Maitland :)

This place is excellent. I've tried a few others around Orlando and have not been impressed. I always get the Chicken Korma indian hot, and it lives up to its name, extremely spicy and hot. Service is always fast and friendly and the owners go the extra mile to come around and visit with everyone. I would highly recommend this restaurant, we live in Dr. Phillips and make the drive to Altamonte once a month at least because it's worth it. Hopefully they open another close to us!

As far as Indian food goes, Kohinoor is close to the worst I've had in Orlando. I'm Indian and I live less than a mile away from it, yet I avoid it like the plague. That should give you an idea of how bad I think it is. If you want good Indian food, go to Memories of India II in Lake Mary. (I haven't been to Memories 1, so I can't comment on that one) I recently went back to Kohinoor to see if they deserved a second chance - they do not. It's overpriced and the food tastes like they got it out of a can of tomato puree. Orlando deserves better.

I've recently upped my rating on this Indian restaurant because they finally improved on their service. It is one of my favorite places for Indian food partly because they serve meat here and the flavors and dishes are inspired by the Goan culture which happens to be one of India's richest areas. I always find ethnic cuisine reviews entertaining because most people either love a place or hate it and have no frame of reference of traveling to the country and knowing truly what it should taste like. With that being said, if you enjoy Indian cuisine in London and overseas, this place is for you. However, the lunch buffet I would steer clear of because its aimed for people who don't really have a palate for this kind of spice. My motto is any buffet is a bad idea. But you can still order off the menu which is your best bet. Some people claim the meat is dry, but that is how tandoori meat is...its coated in yogurt and cooked in a clay oven which tends to give the outside a dry crust and the meat on the inside is juicy. I adore their Chicken Vindaloo, a red curry dish, and the owners know me well enough by know to make it extremely Indian Hot when I ask for it. Their naan bread is amazing and not to be missed.

I've been for dinner a few times and for the lunch buffet even more. The lunch buffet is $10 per person - but its cheaper to buy the food by the pound in the styrofoam container. We filled one container for $12 - that fed two people. The buffet is delicious and there are quite a few vegetarian selections, they don't change them that frequently, so don't go back two weekends in a row. Service is good - the wait-staff are friendly and knowledgeable, perhaps a little too-eager at times, but that's not the worst thing in the world.

I love, love, love Kohinoor. For dinner, this place will not disappoint you. The lunch buffet however..... that was disappointing for me, and so it lost a star. The flavors of the food for dinner are so much bolder, much more better, than what was on the buffet. Also there weren't many choices, especially for vegetarians. Butter chicken and channa masala was there so I was happy enough. What took the second star away was the gulab jamon, one of my most favorite Indian desserts. The pastry was mostly flavorless, other than tasting fried and the syrup was just sugar water.

We used to travel the 30 minutes to this restaurant just for good Indian takeout food. We decided to go to eat at the restaurant tonight and will now never go back. The service was one of the worst we've had. I'm not sure I even really knew who our server was. They literally put us in a corner and forgot about us. The server even started to take our order and then just walked away in the middle of it. Someone else then came over to take our order. The food was bland too. The chicken tikka masala tasted like chicken in tomato sauce...I didn't need to spend that amount of money for something I could have gotten out of a tin can! Last time we go there!!!

Definitely my favorite Indian in the Orlando area. Mad props to Anmol near UCF for being almost as good as Kohinoor but Kohinoor's use of spices and sauces is absolutely perfect. Every dish I've had there has blown me away. I especially love their nans. It's necessary to order at least a few different nans to try with your food. I personally love the garlic nan and the potato nan. They'll start you off with a good selection of Indian sauces and spices to try on your bread before the meal comes. I haven't been to the all you can eat buffet yet so I can't comment on that but just the fact that they have one at lunch for such a modest price has got me excited to an unhealthy degree.

we've eaten at 7 or 8 Indian restaurants in the Orlando area. this is my FAVORITE type of cuisine in the world. THIS is the BEST in Orlando! we have eaten at many wonderful Indian restaurants around the world including the best in Sydney, Australia; Cape Town & Durban, South Africa; many cities in Europe and Bukhara in Dehli, India. this one surely ranks right up there! in fact, one member of the staff used to work @ Bukhara in Dehli, where they make the world's BEST dal makhani! this place is superb! Shukria!

Should have listened to the other reviews the service was less than friendly, despite being listed under vegetarian they only had 2 choices, and to top it off I have made better Indian dishes from a bag at home. The only positive thing I can say about this place is it did appear to be very clean.

This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Orlando area (have tried about three others). The service is wonderful - friendly and attentive. The food is consistently good. The lunch buffet has great options and is always mild but delicious. We didn't think it was possible because lunch is so good but the food at dinner was even better. The place is nothing fancy, decor is dated, but it is always very clean and once you try the food you won't care about the old brass sconces or light pink walls.

It is the very best INDIAN restaurant in town, and would recommend it to anyone and everyone! My husband & I just love it and eat there frequently. They serve vegetarian AND meat dishes equally-well. Food is always prepared and served the way that you request it-whether you prefer it to be mild, medium, or hot. The other traditional Indian spices they use in their cooking are always blended to perfection, and is always complementary, not overpowering. The staff is great, the prices are very fair, and it can easily turn into your favorite family restaurant, business-meeting restaurant, and can also become your favorite low-key/romantic-night restaurant! The Sunday Lunch Buffet is very nice too, and is very popular. Might want to get there at noon, since that is a busy time for them. And, you may want to call & make reservations ahead on weekend nights...but, not always necessary. Note: (My husband is from northern India, and I'm a "southern" Caucasian, and we both love going there as often as we can.) Absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone!

This place is not worth it.. All their Curry dishes taste similar and the meat entrees are very very very dry. The worst part was their horrible service. It's a small size restaurant with plenty servers, but everything was so slow. The servers didn't know how to do their job. Even the owners came around to help serving, but the guy owner was just rude and not informative. I would NEVER go here again.

  • E-Man S.

Very good food. Buffet is fresh and amazing. Consistently good unlike other Indian restaurants in Orlando.

  • Tommy ..

I've never been disappointed. Ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken and Garlic Naan at our last visit. As usual, they were all absolutely fabulous! Great service and I'm always amazed at how quickly the food is brought to the table.

  • Annette G.

  • Renee R.

Just had a great meal here. The place was pretty empty, so service was swift. The chicken vindaloo was hot and tender while my boyfriend's shahi paneer was spot on. The naan was fresh and enjoyable. All in, it was a good meal.

we've eaten at 7 or 8 Indian restaurants in the Orlando area. this is my FAVORITE type of cuisine in the world. Shukria!

  • Abigail B.

Should have listened to the other reviews the service was less than friendly, despite being listed under vegetarian they only had 2 choices, and to top it off I have made better Indian dishes from a bag at home. The only positive thing I can say about this place is it did appear to be very clean.

  • Wasabi P.
